Wedding Programs

I’m obsessed with all things paper. It’s been an addiction since I was a kid. I just love paper, which is ironic considering my profession. Pause. Deep moment of reflection.

Ok. Done with that.

I have this vision of what our wedding program will look like. I want it to blend with the other paper pieces from our wedding while being a piece that I can save (hello, my name is Jenny and I’m a hoarder). I don’t have the budget to have someone make the program and I haven’t found any program kits that I really like.

If you’re looking for a wedding program kit I would recommend these sites:

Rexcraft – because, duh.

Wedding Programs Fast – great templates

iDo Graphics – some cute stuff

Because we are having a Catholic wedding the program is a little long. I’m also including a page that outlines the meaning of a Catholic wedding ceremony. I want our guests to know what they are witnessing because even I get confused at Catholic weddings.

My solution is to create my own programs, which will be cheaper than buying a kit or having someone make them. I found this great site that explains how to make your wedding program in Microsoft Word. I’m going to add a navy or green cover to mine, a little ribbon, and a monogram or something.

Photos to come in the future if you’re good and eat all your vegetables, do your chores, and act politely.

Table Linens and Settings

I’ve been trying to picture our reception decor. I was looking for a place that rents table linens when I came across this site. BBj Linens has an interactive Design Your Event Table feature that allows you to try out different types of tablecloths, runners, napkins and chairs. It’s a lot of fun!

This is pretty close to what I had in mind, but it may be a bit much for the Caribbean. Also, table linens are ridiculously expensive to rent – like $35/tablecloth so I’m not so sure that this is something I absolutely have to have. It is fun to play with though and imagine a room full of gorgeous tables.

Creating a Private Group on Facebook

The Durtty Wedding Facebook Group

The Durtty Wedding Facebook Group

The closer we get to the wedding the more questions we are getting about where to stay, how to get there, how long to stay, etc. We’ve been posting to our wedding website, but I realized that checking that website is not top of mind for our guests. To remedy this, I created a Private Facebook Group today so my family and friends can ask questions. Lets face it, people are practically living on Facebook. I don’t want to admit how many times a day I check my page. It’s kind of sick really…

Since Facebook makes it nearly impossible to learn how to do anything I turned to Read, Write, Web for instructions on how to set this group up. It was really easy!

I’m hopeful that this Group will make our guests more comfortable in asking questions about the wedding and maybe even getting to know one another before the wedding.

WeddingPreParty.com

I’m a little out of the loop lately. I took on some more job responsibilities a couple of weeks ago and I’m trying to find balance again (pretty much the story of my life!).

Anyway, awhile ago Amy from OneWed.com contacted me about weddingpreparty.com and I finally got around to checking it out today.

Basically, it combines the best of wedding planning world with social media. It even ties directly into Facebook.  Amy put it like this, “The novelty of WeddingPreParty.com is that it’s completely interactive for all users (yet invite-only) and enables the wedding party and guests to share in the dialogue during the time between the engagement and the wedding.”

That’s pretty cool so I checked it out and it is a really fun site. Since we are having a destination wedding I would love if our guests could get to know each other before we go to St. Croix.

My favorite thing of course is the checklist. I’ve always been a list maker and crossing off wedding tasks is so much fun! The awesome part of the Checklist function is that OneWed lists links of task-related vendors. This is super helpful and I love perusing wedding vendor sites.

You can also share photos and label people as Bridesmaid/Groomsmen.

Now, as fun as the site is there are a couple of things that annoyed me a little bit.

1) You can only enter a wedding website if you created it through OneWed.com. If I wasn’t web savvy I would have gone this route as they have some awesome designs that are simple to use. Unfortch, I didn’t use their site so I can’t enter durtty.com. ~Bummer #1~

2) OneWed boasts that you can delegate tasks to your bridal party through the site. Since I’ve already been accused of being a bridezilla I think the last thing I am interested in doing is taking it to a level where I am delegating tasks through a website. I love our bridal party. They are awesome people, but I also know that they have lives outside of my wedding day.  ~Let’s keep things in perspective.~

Overall, it is a fun site with a lot of great resources. I may use it as a space for our guests to connect before the big day. I’m really hoping that by our wedding day our friends and family will be familiar with each other and have a great time at our reception.

Engagement Photo Inspiration

In the one second of spare time I had today I decided to take a gander for engagement photo inspiration. Here are my findings:

The essence of Madmen
– This couple did an editorial Madmen-esque shoot. The photos are done by Meg Perotti. I love the style of these. I think there should be more smiling (you’re in love right?), but I love their clothes and the photos.

engage1

Funky (in a good way) – I love these by Jennifer Causey because they are fun, creative and use the city scape well.

Jessamyn Harris did these. I think they are so  fun and stylish. Also they have real emotion, which I love so much more than smiling for the camera.

engage4engage5I can’t wait to get our engagement photos done! We don’t have any professional photography of the two of us. I already have an IKEA project planned for the photos. Yeah!
