Too Good?

We finished the classroom and pool portions of our PADI certification last weekend. Now we have two dives in Tahoe and then we will be Scuba certified for life!

I conquered the mask clearing problem that I was having and am so relieved about that. I was really stressing about it! Isn’t it amazing when you overcome a fear and realize just how silly it is? After mastering that, I felt like I could really relax in the pool and enjoy learning this new skill.

Obviously, Travis is my dive buddy and after class the teacher approached us and said that we may be depending on each other too much. He said that he had even thought about separating us because we are always communicating with each other. Ha! We got in trouble for being too good of dive buddies!

We were both kind of annoyed by that comment, but after thinking about it some more, we realized that if two people who are about to get married are getting chastised for communicating too much, that might not necessarily be a bad thing.

Slap my hand that I depend on and communicate well with the man I’m going to marry!

Tahoe here we come!

WeddingPreParty.com

I’m a little out of the loop lately. I took on some more job responsibilities a couple of weeks ago and I’m trying to find balance again (pretty much the story of my life!).

Anyway, awhile ago Amy from OneWed.com contacted me about weddingpreparty.com and I finally got around to checking it out today.

Basically, it combines the best of wedding planning world with social media. It even ties directly into Facebook.  Amy put it like this, “The novelty of WeddingPreParty.com is that it’s completely interactive for all users (yet invite-only) and enables the wedding party and guests to share in the dialogue during the time between the engagement and the wedding.”

That’s pretty cool so I checked it out and it is a really fun site. Since we are having a destination wedding I would love if our guests could get to know each other before we go to St. Croix.

My favorite thing of course is the checklist. I’ve always been a list maker and crossing off wedding tasks is so much fun! The awesome part of the Checklist function is that OneWed lists links of task-related vendors. This is super helpful and I love perusing wedding vendor sites.

You can also share photos and label people as Bridesmaid/Groomsmen.

Now, as fun as the site is there are a couple of things that annoyed me a little bit.

1) You can only enter a wedding website if you created it through OneWed.com. If I wasn’t web savvy I would have gone this route as they have some awesome designs that are simple to use. Unfortch, I didn’t use their site so I can’t enter durtty.com. ~Bummer #1~

2) OneWed boasts that you can delegate tasks to your bridal party through the site. Since I’ve already been accused of being a bridezilla I think the last thing I am interested in doing is taking it to a level where I am delegating tasks through a website. I love our bridal party. They are awesome people, but I also know that they have lives outside of my wedding day.  ~Let’s keep things in perspective.~

Overall, it is a fun site with a lot of great resources. I may use it as a space for our guests to connect before the big day. I’m really hoping that by our wedding day our friends and family will be familiar with each other and have a great time at our reception.

Win a trip to the USVI

A quick lesson in blogger relations before I give you the goodies. Say you are a PR person and you want to inform a blogger about a contest to win a trip. Don’t copy all the contest details and then paste them into the comments section of a blog. Instead, maybe write a quick note  about the contest and email it to the blogger. That way is so much more personal and the blogger will appreciate it. If they are interested they will write about it or tuck it away in their pocket for a rainy day topic (a quick shout out to Amy K. for always getting this right!).

On that note, here is an excellent opportunity to win a trip to the U.S.V.I – your choice of St. Croix, St. John, or St. Thomas for six nights courteous of Johnson and Johnson.

Learning to Scuba

padi_logoThis past weekend Travis and I started our Scuba certification through Tropical Penguin. Saturday was spent in the classroom going over the basics and Sunday we spent four hours in the pool going over a variety of Scuba skills. For the most part, I had a good time, but I’m struggling to figure out the mask clearing thing. Every time we have to do anything that require my mask not to be on my face I stop breathing and convince myslef that I am drowning. I burst to the surface like a humpback whale until I figure out that I actually still have the regulator in my mouth and am perfectly fine. This week I will be practicing in the shower and our condo’s pool. I really want to get this skill down and the perfectionist in me can’t stand that I am the only one in the class who is having a problem with it.

One of the fun things about the class that I hadn’t expected was what a bonding experience this was for Travis and I. There is something about learning a new skill that is so much fun and with Scuba you are really dependent on your dive buddy. For instance, one of the things we had to practice was a scenario where we had to pretend that one of us was out of air. We had to communicate completely through hand signals, take one regulator out of our mouth and then get the spare regulator from our partner. It really took some team work.

We have one more weekend of Scuba training and then we do our first dive in Lake Tahoe the following weekend. Now that we’ve been in the pool, I’m really excited to try out our new skills in the open water.

Scuba is one thing that we are really looking forward to doing when we are on St. Croix for our wedding and on our honeymoon (wherever that may be).

I’ll keep you posted and let you know as we continue our training!
